Club Championships Results 2024/25

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 Under 19 – Saturday 22 March 2025

Congratulations to Georgia Pegrum and Robbie Brigg who are the Under 19 Club Champions for 2024/25.

1. Georgia is a past Under 15 Club Champion and Under 14 Club Champion. Her best results in the Under 17 was third.

2. Maggie Pazin was Georgia's competition, but only contested the Run Swim Run and the Surf Race. In the Open Club Championships, Maggie was disqualified for failing to correctly complete the course, however she has been awarded second place in that event in the Under 19 Club Championships.

3. Robbie was last season's Under 19 Club Champion. He previously has not contested the U14/15/U17 Club Championships, so was only contesting the Under 19 Club Championships as it is part of the Open Club Championships. (Perhaps we shouldn't be so harsh as he was the only Brigg contesting any Club Championships this season!)

4. Jack Harrison was Robbie's competition, but only contested the Beach Sprint. Jack was also on patrol from 11.00 am (so could have done all events except the Iron).

5. The Under 19 Beach Sprint was run as a separate event. Three Under 17s contested this event due to an error by the Referee. Thankfully Jack and Robbie came first and second so we can ignore the other results.

6. The Under 19 Beach Flags was run as a separate event. Three Under 17s contested this event due to an error by the Referee. Thankfully Robbie came first so we can ignore the other results in the Under 19 Male. In the Under 19 Female Ellie Turton beat Georgia, but as Ellie won the Open Beach Flags Championships, she hasn't been awarded points in the U19 Club Championships.

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 New Bronze Medallion Trophy – Saturday 22 March 2025

Congratulations to Ellie Turton and Doug Clarke who are the New Bronze Medallion Trophy winners for 2024/25.

1. Ellie is also the current Under 17 Club Champion, last season's Under 15 Club Champion and the previous season's Under 14 Club Champion.

2. Considering that purpose of the New Bronze Medallion Trophy is to encourage those newly awarded their Bronze Medallion to compete in the Club Championships this is a fitting reward for Ellie.

3. Dani Marsland was Ellie's competition, but only contested the Surf Race. In the Open Club Championships, Dani was disqualified for failing to correctly complete the course, however she has been awarded second place in the New Bronze Medallion Trophy Surf Race.

4. Andrew Engelbrecht didn't contest the Long Run, due to an earlier injury. Had he done so and finished ahead of Doug there would have been a tie, which has occurred once previously.

5. Apologies to the OBH crew for the suggestion that Fiona McLarty and Peter Weston were in the New Bronze Medallion Trophy this season. They were eligible last season, unfortunately for them, in a season dominated by the Surf Rescue Certificate into Bronze Medallion Youth cohort.

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 Over 40 – Saturday 22 March 2025

Congratulations to Kristie Orchard and Ben Juengling who are the Over 40 Club Champions for 2024/25.

1. Jingles turned 40 last year whilst in Broome and this is his first season in the Over 40 Club Championships. He also made the most of his 'youth' in the Masters State Championships.

2. The Over 40 or Veterans Club Championships was hotly contested this season, with an average 10 competitors per event.

3. Peter Weston has an injured hamstring, so started several races on the waters edge to avoid running. Wisely he did not contest the Long Run, Beach Sprint or Beach Flags.

4. Alen did his second Ski Race and second Iron.

5. Leavo started the Iron, doing well in the ski leg and less well in the swim leg, before deciding not to complete the board leg.

6. Yvonne was second with 42 points, Susie was third with 41 points indicating the closeness of racing. Ando was third with 44 points, Ray was fourth with 43 points indicating the closeness of racing.

4. The Over 40 Beach Spring and Beach Flags Club Championships were conducted as separate events.

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 Open – Saturday 22 March 2025

Congratulations to Kath Laws and Josh Engelbrecht who are the Open Club Champions for 2024/25.

1. Kath was last season's Open Club Champion. Josh is the current Under 15 Club Champion.

2. Josh broke Callum Griffiths run of 8 consecutive Open Surf Race Championships and 4 consecutive Open Run Swim Run Championships.

3. Maia got caught up in fishing line in the Long Run. She was either going to get the fisherman to cut the line or make him run (at her pace) to the finish. Luckily she was able to disentangle herself from the line (fishing) and cross the line (finish) in first place.

4. Other hazards included beach patrons and dogs on the beach sprint track, a dog on the beach flags arena and a swimmer swimming across the course before the Male Board Race.

5. Ando was the only person disqualified for breaking in Beach Flags. ☹️

6. Maggie and Dani swam around the right hand side (rather than the right side of the buoy which was in fact the left hand side) of the first buoy in the Female Surf Race. They have been disqualified in the Open Female Surf Race Championships. ☹️

7. The width the beach and mid beach steep slope meant there was only room for 6 lanes in the Beach Sprint and Beach Flags.

8. Iron draw was Ski Swim Board. Drawee was our Olympian, Amanda Simper. It might not have been a popular order given several calls for a redraw!

9. This was Ellie's first Ski Race, Susie's first Iron Race, Amanda's first Iron this century (and probably with the ski leg).

10. We finished about 11.54 am! Last year we finished at 11.19 am, but had started at 7.00 am, so we were half an hour quicker.

11. The Club Calendar did show a Wrap Up Social after Club Championships. We didn't manage to organise this in the Rampant Swan Bar, but a crew went to the OBH. Thank you Ray for the ginger beers and the crew for the share food!

12. Apologies to Stirling, his parents and the OBH crew for announcing Stirling as second place overall. He did have 30 points as stated at the time, but I misread Ben's Board Race result which I had crossed out and rewritten, then omitted to include it in Ben's points total - 26 at the OBH and 32 from the spreadsheet.

13. In my defence I did correct assume the top four finishes in both the Open Female and Open Male and calculate all the other points correctly.

14. Raised at the OBH was how about next season we have Friday night Beach Sprint and Beach Flags and the rest of Club Championships on a Saturday morning?

15. Youth won 8 events and had 14 podium positions! (an improvement on last season). Age difference between 1st and 2nd on the Open Mens Board Race remained at 35 years!

16. Well done to Alen Pazin, Ben Juengling, Josh Engelbrecht, Ray' Lampard, Stirling Stilwell, Kath Laws, Maia Simmonds and Kate Hutchinson who competed in all 8 events.

17. Bronze Medallion Mock Assessments were held at the same time as Club Championships. According to the Planning Calendar, Bronze was to move to Sunday, however, that didn't filter through to the Bronze Trainers.

18. The anchors were set on Friday morning following Board Training. The buoys were added on Saturday morning. This saved time in the set up and meant the buoys were exactly where I wanted them.

19. Ernie helped with the washing of craft!

20. Lydia and Neve missed the most of Club Championships with Bronze Medallion Mock Assessments. They had the opportunity to do the Iron, but chose to take a double ski out instead. The double ski is not a Club Championships event (but has been previously), but is probably the only event the two could continue to chat for it's duration!

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 Under 14 – Sunday 16 March 2025

Congratulations to Tom Peebles and Indra Addy who are the Under 14 Club Champions for 2024/25.

1. The Under 14 Male was the most contested with seven competitors.

2. In second place was Fynn Watt, who won the Beach Flags and was second in 5 events. Both Fynn and Tom competed in all seven events

3. Lucas Suares won the Long Run and Beach Sprint to finish one point in front of Hamish Lorbeer.

4. Barsa Manesh was at the Club early, even before the Referee, to practice his board paddling.

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 Under 15 – Sunday 16 March 2025

Congratulations to Lydia Defrancesco and Adam Lowe who are the Under 15 Club Champion for 2024/25.

1. Lydia Defrancesco is best recognised as a beach athlete, winning the Long Run, Beach Sprint and Beach Flags. She also won the Board Race.

2. In second place was Hannah Engelbrecht, best recognised as an ocean athlete, winning the Run Swim Run, Surf Race and Iron.

3. Aliyana Stickland was placed third, fnshing second to Lydia in the Long Run, Beach Sprint and Beach Flags.

4. Adam was the sole Under 15 Male competitor and competed in six events.

SNSLSC Club Championships 2024/25 Under 17 – Sunday 16 March 2025

Congratulations to Ellie Turton and Josh Engelbrecht who are the Under 17 Club Champions for 2024/25.

1. Ellie won six races and was only beaten in the Long Run. Last season she was Under 15 Club Champion.

2. In second place was Neve Stilwell, who won the Long Run and the Ski Race. Neve competed in all eight events, which will make her parents particularly proud.

3. Tara Swingler was too late for the Long Run, but was second in five events, to finish third overall.

4. Josh Engelbrecht and Stirling Stilwell competed in all eight events, including the Ski Race, to take the top staps on the podium.

5. Eli Harrison appeared to paddle far better in the his ski warm up then in the ski race.

6. Oli Defrancesco is definitely a beach athlete, winning the Long Run, Beach Sprint and Beach Flags.

Club Champion Lifesaver - Saturday 23 November 2024

Congratulations to Leesa Equid who is the Club Champion Lifesaver for 2024/25.

Runner up and Male Champion is Timothy Tucak.

Third place and Under 17 Champion is Josh Engelbrecht. Within the Under 17s, Timothy McMahon was second and Stirling Stilwell was third.

1. Leesa was early for marshalling after being late several years in a row 😉. Unfortunately Lydia Defrancesco was unable to attend with a prior engagement.

2. Theory paper was the SLSWA Champion Lifesaver paper for 2024. Josh, Leesa and Tim answered this paper in the 2024 SLSWA Champion Lifesaver competition. The practice theory paper was the SLSWA Champion Lifesaver paper for 2023 📃.

3.  This is the first time Stirling and Tim M had competed in Champion Lifesaver. They will be competing at the State Championships in Champion Lifesaver as neither is available for Champion Patrol. There were several training sessions for all competitors 😎.

4. Tim caught Stirling in the Surf Race and almost caught him in the Board Race. The Rescue Tube Race was seeded with 1st seed Josh swimming to the buoy, the 2nd and 3rd seeds (Leesa and Tim M) swimming either side, with the 4th and 5th seeds (Stirling and Tim) outside of them.

5. We took the traditional competitors and their racing boards photo.
