SNSLSC places a high priority on education. Whether it be ensuring Members are adequately prepared to perform rescues, introducing children to the dangers of the beach or educating Members in first aid and CPR, Swanny is committed to saving lives.
New members typically first attain the Bronze Medallion or Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). After obtaining your Bronze Medallion you are encouraged to upgrade your skills and attain various Higher Awards, enabling you to take on further responsibilities whilst on patrol. These Higher Awards include Advanced Resuscitation, Pain Management, First Aid, IRB Crew, IRB Driver, Silver and Gold Medallions. Higher Awards are aimed at increasing your knowledge, skills and confidence as a first responder.
If there are barriers to obtaining your Bronze Medallion then some Higher Awards do allow alternate pathways into lifesaving and patrolling as an Award Member. To be considered as an Award Member please contact both the Lifesaving Manager and the Higher Awards Officer to discuss further.
