It is with sadness that the Club informs you that Rob Vaisey passed away on 17th February 2022.

Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC Vale Rob Vaisey

Rob joined the Club in the 1955/56 season, quickly gaining his Bronze Medallion, WA No. 128 on 4th December 1955 with the Swanbourne Nedlands SLSC. Along with Rob, the Bronze Medallion squad included Peter Butterworth, Graham Gillett and Graham Bardsley. Rob gained his Instructors Certificate in 1956/57 (equivalent of the Trainer Officers Certificate).

Rob served the Club as Vice Captain Patrol Officer (equivalent of the Lifesaving Manager today) for two seasons from 1957/58 to 1958/59. He was also one of the Delegates to State Centre in 1957/58 and 1958/59

Rob won the Oldham Memorial Cup in 1955/56 and the Presidents’ Cup in 1957/58. He was Club Surf Race Champion and Club Belt Race Champion as a Junior (Under 18) in 1955/56. With Graham Gillet he was Club

Double Ski Champion in 1958/59. They were also Silver Medallists at the State Championships in the Double Ski Race. Rob was the inaugural winner of the C W Court Trophy for the Club Champion Lifesaver in 1958/59.

 

Graham Gillett, Robin Vaisey, Kevin Kemp and Kevin Richards were the pioneer ski competitors of the period, enjoying most success in the double ski event.

Rob worked for the West Australian Newspaper and had presented the Club with a scrapbook of articles and photographs.
